يذهب المؤلف محمد صلاح غازي في مقدمته للكتاب إلى ضرورة «طرح سوسيولوجيا الأدب على بساط البحث العلمي العلاقات التي تلهمها الحياة الأدبية مع الحياة الاجتماعية، وحازت العلاقة بين الأدب والمجتمع على اهتمام أذهان الكثير من الفلاسفة»
ويؤكد أن هذه العلاقة تعود إلى أقدم عصور الوعي بالسياسي والأدبي والتنظير لهما كذلك ويقول المؤلف في كتابه إن أفلاطون طرح في كتابه الجمهورية، التساؤل عن مكانة الشعراء في المدينة، وبين أثر الأفكار والانفعالات على طرق التصرف، ومن ثم بين بالتالي فضائل الأدب ومخاطره.
ويضيف غازي :«استعيدت هذه القضية وتجددت عبر العصور وأنتج هذا الحوار الصعب كمية ضخمة من المؤلفات المهمة»، مؤكدا أن بعض علماء الاجتماع أدرك خلال العقدين الأخيرين من القرن العشرين، أهمية إيجاد فرع متخصص من فروع المعرفة السوسيولوجية لدراسة الأدب باعتباره ظاهرة اجتماعية مثل باقي الظواهر الاجتماعية الأخري. ويشير إلى أنه تم اطلاق اسم «علم اجتماع الأدب» على هذا الفرع الجديد من الدراسة، مؤكدا أن العلاقة بين الأدب والمجتمع كعلاقة بين الروح والجسد
والمؤلف محمد صلاح غازي هو كاتب وباحث في العلوم الاجتماعية، حاصل على درجة الماجستير في سيسيولوجيا الأدب، عضو اتحاد كتاب مصر ورئيس نادى أدب بيلا. وصدر للكاتب عدة مؤلفات منها «الأدب والمجتمع»، و«عولمة الإرهاب وتأثيراتها على الفقر والتنمية»، و«النظر إلى مصر بعين ثالثة» .

He points out that the name "sociology of literature" was given to this new branch of study, stressing that the relationship between literature and society is as a relationship between the soul and the body.
The author, Mohamed Salah Ghazi, is a writer and researcher in social sciences, holds a master's degree in sociology of literature, a member of the Egyptian Writers Union and president of the Bella Literature Club. The writer has published several books, including "Literature and Society", "Globalization of Terrorism and Its Effects on Poverty and Development", and "Looking at Egypt with a Third Eye".
